Leamington Post, 30 August 1928:
Golden Wedding - Mr. and Mrs. Burwell W. Wigle are celebrating their golden wedding to-day at their fine new home on Albert street. Mr. and Mrs. Wigle and family came from Ruthven to reside in Leamington about ten years ago, and Mr. Wigle at once began taking an active interest in the affairs of the town and the Agricultural Society. On the Town Council Mr. Wigle has sat for several terms as Deputy-Reeve and for as many years he has been a director of the Mersea, Leamington and South Gosfield Agricultural Society in both of which he has rendered efficient service.
Mr. Wigle got his bride on Pelee Island. She was formerly Miss Ella McCormick and they were the first couple to be married on Pelee Island, the officiating clergyman being Rev. John Barrett? of St. Mary's Parish.
To-day at 12:30, in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Wigle gave a family dinner when 26 guests gathered around the festive board and partook of a sumptuous dinner. Amid the festivities all offered the bride and groom hearty congratulations, and the felicitations of many others were received, the hope being fervently expressed that Mr. and Mrs. Wigle would be able to enjoy many more wedding anniversaries.
The out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Willard Cole and daughter Helen, of Queensville, Ont.; Mr. and Mrs. Nobel Armstrong and daughter Betty Ann of Windsor; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert J. Moore and son Herbert of Kansas City, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Lord and Mrs. Frank Wigle of Ruthven, and Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Wigle, of Arner, Ont.

...
Burwell W. Wendel is the youngest of his parents' family. He was born on Lot 10, Concession 2, and was reared and educated in Gosfield. At the time of his father's decease, he was eighteen years of age, and was engaged in farming independently. He later entered the employ of William Fulmer, a merchant of Ruthven, and after he had learned the business he purchased a mercantile stock for himself, and for three years he carried on merchandising for himself in his native village. In April, 1886, he bought fifty acres of land in Lots 11 and 12, Concession 2, and has continued to improve this property ever since, devoting his entire time to general farming and growing of tobacco and fruit, making a specialty of the latter industry. His land is well adapted to horticulture, and he has been very successful.
On Aug. 29, 1878, Mr. Wigle was united in marriage with Ella D. McCormick, daughter of Thomas L. and Jane (Rudes) McCormick, and they have had the following children: Roy Adelbert, born June 10, 1879, died Jan. 20, 1881; Erie Alberta; Vera Elfreda; Cora May; and Laura Margery. Mr. Wigle and family belong to the Episcopal Church, in which he is serving as senior warden. Politically he is a Conservative, and for the past four years he has served most efficiently as township councillor. During a period of nine years he served as school trustee, and he has been much interested in the cause of public education...
