Will of John Stockwell, HEIRS files:
Dated 21 August 1818 and 21 September 1818.
In the name of God Amen, I John Stockwell of the Township of Colchester Western District being sick in body, but in my sound sense and mind. Do hereby publish this as my last will and testament: In the first place my will is that my beloved wife Nancy Stockwell shal inherit all my mortgages, or tenements, situated and lying in the Township of Colchester. Known and described by the half of Lot. No. Seventy One and Lot. No. Seventy two containing in all three hundred acres of land more or less with the appartenances there unto belonging; also all my personal estate, goods and chattels, of what kind and nature soever, I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Nancy Stockwell during her widowhood; and in case of her marriage or decease, then to be disposed of and equally divided between my sons and daughters James Stockwell, Charles, Sarah, Hannah, Mary, Nelly, Jane and Lucinda. To my son John Stockwell Jun. I bequeath, one hundred acres of land commencing in the rear (?) of thirty six acres from the front of Lot. No. Seventy One from the East and West line be the same more or less: And lastly I do bequeath to my sons and daughters, Isaac Stockwell, William, Alexander, Elizabeth, and Nancy, one shilling sterling even, and for the execution hereof, I do hereby appoint Theoddrus Mellot and Charles Stewart Jun. to be my Executors of this my last will and testament with full power and authority to do and perform everything herein mentioned.
In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal in the Township of Colchester this Twenty first day of August One Thousand Eight hundred and eighteen.

And further it is my will that my youngest daughter Eliza born on the twenty third day of August, during my sickness should equally share with the Rest of my children --; James, Charles, Sarah, Hannah, Mary, Nelly, Jane, and Lucinda, and in case of the death of either of the above named children, before the estate by divided, their share to be justly divided --- between the survivors.

To Alexander McCormick and his wife were born children as follows: (1) William, who lived for many years in this township, and later on Pelee Island, was a man widely known, and during the war of 1812 was a member of Parliament, continuing to serve as such for eleven years. (2) Nancy married a Mr. Stockwell, and lived on Lot 71, Colchester South. (3) Elizabeth died unmarried. (4) John is mentioned below. (5) Matthew lived in Colchester South, and has grandsons there now; his wife, Deborah (Wright) McCormick, died April 20, 1874, aged 71 years, one month and eleven days. (6) Alexander made his home near Oxley, where he had 400 acres of land; he married Mary Lidwell.
