The remains of Mrs. Mary Scarlett, relict of the late Mr. H. Scarlett, who passed away at Ft. William, aged 82 years, arrived here Friday, Feb. 17th and were taken to the home of her daughter Mrs. Charles Bodkin, Zone, from where the funeral service was held Sat. by Rev. M. Lovegrove of the United Church. Interment was made in the Butler cemetery. Mrs. Scarlett was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Kerby and a resident of Florence during her lifetime, until about 17 years ago. She leaves to mourn her loss four daughters, Mrs. Chas. Bodkin, Florence; Mrs. W. Clark, Chatham; Mrs. Nathan Stonehouse, Mrs. Ernest Boss, of Fort William; two sons, Mr. Ainslee Scarlett, of Wardsville, and Mr. Chas. Scarlett of Windsor; two daughters, Mrs. Geo. Bodkin and Mrs. Malcolm Gordon predeceased her some years ago.

Herbert Scarlett Family
Herbert "Bert" Scarlett (1847-1909), and Mary Jane (Kerby) Scarlett (1851-1933) wed in 1872. Mary Jane was the youngest daughter of Aaron Kerby of Florence. Aaron was the brother of George P. Kerby. Bert Scarlett farmed in Dawn Township until 1904 when they retired to Florence. The Scarletts bought the home later owned by Harold and Wilma MacRobert. Bert drove the freight stage between Bothwell and Florence. After Bert died, Mary remained in Florence for a short time and then moved to Fort William to live with her daughter, Buddy Boss. Bert and Mary Scarlett had eight children.
Ainsley Scarlett married Anne Daniels and lived in Wardsville. Maude married George Bodkin and lived in Dawn Township. Gertrude married Charles Bodkin and lived in Zone Township. Louisa married photographer Malcolm Gordon of Florence. They were only married a short time when Louisa was killed in a horse and buggy accident. Estella married William Clark of Kent County. May married Nathan Stonehouse and they moved to Fort William where Nathan worked on the railroad. Charles married Margot O'Brien and lived in Windsor. Buddy married Ernest Boss and also lived in Fort William.
