Brantford Weekly Expositor, 26 November 1886:
Obituary - The Late Wm. K. Kerby - The mortal remains of the late William Kennedy Kerby, whose death at Saginaw, Mich., on Wednesday last week was announced in Friday's Expositor, were brought here on Saturday last for interment and laid beside those of his father and mother in the family plot in Greenwood Cemetery.
Deceased was the oldest son of the late William Kerby, one of the pioneers of this section, and was born at the old homestead on Brant Avenue, the present location of Scarfe Avenue, in the year 1817, being 69 years of age at the time of his death. In early life Mr. Kerby was engaged in the hotel business, having conducted two hotels in Burford village where he resided for a number of years. He removed to this city some 30 years ago, and four or five years later removed to Michigan where the balance of his life was spent. The deceased was thrice married, his first wife being a Miss Doyle, his second, Miss Eliza Miller, daughter of Mr. Jacob Miller, of Burford, marrying his third in Michigan. His first wife and two children are buried in the Grace Church burying ground, and his second in Burford. One daughter by his first wife, Mrs. John H. Stevenson of Napanee, survives him. His other surviving relatives are his brothers James, of Chicago, Joseph, of Montreal, Abram, of Trenton, and his sister, Mrs. Pruyn, of Napanee, of whom only James was present at the burial. Deceased was a victim of pneumonia, having been sick but a short time. The remains were accompanied here by his bereaved wife, and her sister, and Dr. L. W. Bliss and his wife, the Dr. having attended deceased in his last illness. Rev. G. O. Mackenzie, Rector of Grace church, conducted the burial service.

History of Saginaw county, Michigan; together with ... portraits ... and biographies ..., by Michael A. Leeson, 1881, p. 674:
Wm. K. Kerby, a grandson of a Mrs. Smith who was a fullblooded Mohawk Indian, was born in Canada. In 1861 he came to Saginaw and in 1862 made a permanent settlement. In 1866 he returned to Canada and subsequently to Saginaw and built the Kerby House, of which he is still proprietor. Mr. Kerby is a strictly honest business man and is doing a good business. His hotel is a first-class house, and it can be safely said that no other house in Saginaw Valley of its size does as much business as the Kerby House.
