Amherstburg 1796-1996, p.106-107:
Big-time professionals in the trade [bootlegging liquor] included the Captains McQueen - father John Sylvestor and sons John Earl ('Cap') and Peregrine. Better-known ships of their fleet included the old passenger steamer City of Dresden, the tug Leroy Brooks and the motor cruiser Sonora...Their big lumber tug Progresso was chartered as power for the refitted ocean freighters of Windsor liquor baron Harry Low who exported from these floating bases stationed around the Great Lakes and on the East Coast...

Amherstburg Echo, 19 January 1977, Conversation Pieces:
The weather makes good copy - In the 4 degree below zero temp (F) Wednesday at 8:30 when our world was in a deep freeze, the Greenaways and I watched the tug Atomic northbound, close to our side of the channel bank, cutting through the ice in great fashion. Once again I'll commend the late Capt. Earl McQueen as it was he who designed the bow of that powerful tug so that she would be the icebreaker she is. I know that for a fact because I was in Owen Sound with the McQueens when the Atomic was being built and there she was like a "picked" turkey on the ways at the Russel boat works and the captain was laying down the law re her bow. "It must be changed" he said to Mr. Russel and the architect, "It has to be this other way to cut through the ice." The architect took his advice reluctantly at first, I'll admit.
