Just guessing that John Thomas is the son of John by a first wife and that he was born about 1804 in England. Other researchers have him born about 1802 in either England or Colchester Twp, Upper Canada.

In 1851 two Leighton boys were living with two of Mary Christine's brothers, which suggests both John and Mary Christine were no longer living (John is the right age to be Philip):
