Thamesville Herald, Thursday 10 February 1927
Was the Last Member of Kent Pioneer Family. Details have been received by local relatives of the recent death of Mrs. Robert Murray, last member of the older generation of the Hubbell family, Kent County pioneers.
Mrs. Murray died Christmas eve, in Oakland, Calif., at the age of 80 years. Before her marriage she was Lois Hubbell, who were early pioneers of the county and cleared cultivated a picturesque farm near Thamesville.
The property, known as "the Hubbell farm" for over a century, passed into the hands of A. Gillespie a few years ago.
Mrs. Murray was born and brought up on the old place, and it was from there that she was married to Robert Murray, then of Palmyra. Shortly after the wedding the young couple went to pioneer in California, going first to Humbolt county. Later they went to Arcata where for nearly 40 years they were prominent in the affairs of the county. For the last 12 years they lived in East Bay.
November 19, last year Mr. and Mrs. Murray celebrated their diamond jubilee and received 350 guests at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Murray.
Until her illness, which lasted only a few hours, Mrs. Murray kept house for her husband. She was a well read woman, and took a great interest in public affairs and the news of the day.
Although 80 years old, Mr. Murray has not retired from business, and is employed at the Hinks store, where his son, George W., is superintendent.
Besides his son, George W., Mr. Murray has a daughter, Mrs. G. E. Taylor. There are two grandchildren and four great grandchildren, all in California.
The late Mrs. Murray is mourned by a large number of relatives in the Border Cities, Detroit, and Thamesville.
