Thamesville Herald, Thursday 6 February 1902
The Silent Tomb - On Thursday Jan. 30th Mr. Jessie H. Willis, of Thamesville, passed away at the age of 73 yrs. and 10 months, after 10 days illness. Pneumonia was the cause of death. The news of Mr. Willis' death came as a surprise to his friends here. He had gone in the early part of the winter on a visit to his children in Ohio, and, though advanced in years, was in good health. He had visited all his relatives and was ready to return home when he was stricken down with the deadly pneumonia, and in spite of all that medical skill and a trained nurse could do, he passed away as stated above. There is something pathetic in the fact that the deceased had gone so far away from home to die. The remains were brought here on Saturday, and the funeral took place from the home of his son, A. H. Willis on Sunday afternoon. The services, which were held in the Methodist church were conducted by Rev. Mr. Magee, and interment took place in the Everitt cemetery. Notwithstanding the intensely cold day a large number attended the services to pay the last tribute of respect to their fellow citizen. The following children are left to mourn the loss of their father: A. H. Willis, Thamesville, Mrs. W. W. Donaldson, Geo. W. and Jessie H. of Loraine, Ohio, Mrs. W. D. Wilde, South Saginaw, Mich., Mrs. Geo. Twigg, of Windsor, Ont, Mrs. W. A. O'Neil, of Thamesville and Mrs. John Dickson, of Camden.
To the bereaved ones the fullest sympathy of the community is extended in the hour of their affliction.
