Chatham Daily News/Planet, 17 September 1897 - Doyles
St. Patrick's church was, on Monday afternoon, Sept. 7th, the scene of a very happy and pleasing marriage, rendered particularly interesting by the high esteem in which the contracting parties are held - Miss Bella Higgins, second daughter of Wm. Higgins, and the groom, E. McDonald, a well-known and highly respected resident of Chatham. The bride was arrayed in a handsome suit of white silk, trimmed with ribbon and flowers that looked the very perfection of taste and elegance. She was assisted by her sister Minnie, little Emma acting as maid of honor. Mr. Courtney acted as best man. The bridal party arrived at the church at 3 o'clock. After the pastoral benediction the party, accompanied by friends of the bride and groom, repaired to the bride's home, where a sumptuous repast awaited them. After spending a pleasant afternoon and evening with their friends the newly wedded couple returned to their new home in Chatham. The bride was the recipient of many handsome and useful presents. Her many friends congratulate Mr. McDonald on winning such an amiable bride, and join in wishing them a long and happy journey through life.
