Mrs. Elsie Barclay Passes to Beyond. Thamesville, April 24. - An old and highly respected resident of Howard Township died very suddenly yesterday afternoon of a heart attack in the person of Mrs. Elsie Barclay in her ? year. She passed away in the Presbyterian Church, where the funeral service for her sister was being held. She was a daughter of the late Isobelle Smith and Alexander McDonald, natives of Scotland, and was born in Howard Township and was one of a family of thirteen. She also spent all her married life in Howard Township on Lot 12, Con. 1. Mrs. Barclay had been in splendid health having walked between her son and daughter, who live a mile apart, every day when the weather would permit. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert Clarke of Howard Township, and one son Lawson Barclay of the River Road, Howard, and one sister, Mrs. Fred Spence of Chatham, and one brother, Alexander McDonald, Moose Jaw, Sask.
The funeral will be held at her late residence, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. J. C. Herbison will have charge of the service. Interment in the Everett cemetery.

Ridgetown Dominion, 25 April 1934:
Drops Dead At Funeral - Audience Unaware That Grief Had Killed Aged Woman: Thamesville, April 24 - Two sisters lay dead in St. James Presbyterian Church, Thamesville, yesterday afternoon although relatives and friends who had assembled for the funeral of Mrs. David Kelly were unaware of the fact until after the service.
Midway through the service those in the church saw Mrs. Kelly's sister, Mrs. Elsie Barclay, 78 years old, collapse in the arms of her son, Lawson Barclay. They saw Mr. Barclay carry his mother out to the vestibule. They realized that she had been overcome by the strain and grief and took it for granted that she was being revived as the service proceeded.
They saw a note quietly brought up to the minister, Rev. J. C. Herbison, and laid on the side of the pulpit. Mr. Herbison was seen to read it and turned pale. He paused for a moment in the service. Then he laid the note on the Bible and continued his address. Even then nobody in the church realized what had happened.
After the pallbearers had carried the casket of Mrs. Kelly out of the church, it was quietly announced that Mrs. Barclay had died almost instantly after her son had carried her out to the vestibule. Grief had stopped a heart that had been weak for several years.
Family all Present - All Mrs. Barclay's immediate family with the exception of a brother, Alex McDonald, who lives in Saskatchewan, were in the church at the time. Besides her son, Lawson Barclay, of Thamesville, they are one daughter, Mrs. Robert Clark of the first concession of Howard township, and one sister, Mrs. Fred Spencer, of Chatham.
Mrs. Barclay resided at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clark, where ...
