...
"Alexander McDonald was born in the log house in the early days of his parents' pioneer life in Howard Township... Here Mr. McDonald grew to sturdy manhood, and on March 18, 1841, he was married to Isabella Smith, who was born in Scotland, June 23, 1823, daughter of Robert and Isabel Smith, highly esteemed residents of the County of Kent... Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McDonald, two dying in childhood. Of the others we have the following record--... Lawson, unmarried, resides at the old home.

Ridgetown Dominion, 24 December 1931:
Death of Mr. L. McDonald - The death took place at St. Joseph's Hospital, Chatham, on Tuesday evening of Mr. Lawson McDonald, a lifelong and respected resident of Howard township, following a short illness. Deceased, who was in his 80th year, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alex. McDonald, and was born and spent his entire life in North Howard. He is survived by two brothers and three sisters, Mr. Randal McDonald, of Chatham; Mr. Alex McDonald, of Moose Jaw, Sask.; Mrs. Elsie Barclay, of Howard Township; Mrs. D. Kelly, of Thamesville, and Mrs. F. Spencer, of Chatham. The funeral will take place this afternoon from the residence of his nephew, Mr. L. Barclay, River Road, Howard. Service will be held at the house at three o'clock, followed by interment in Everitt Cemetery.
