"Alexander McDonald was born in the log house in the early days of his parents' pioneer life in Howard Township... Here Mr. McDonald grew to sturdy manhood, and on March 18, 1841, he was married to Isabella Smith, who was born in Scotland, June 23, 1823, daughter of Robert and Isabel Smith, highly esteemed residents of the County of Kent... Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McDonald, two dying in childhood. Of the others we have the following record--... Randall, born in 1845, married Mary Whitsel, daughter of George Whitsel, pioneer, and they reside in Chatham, their two children are Alexander and Marry A...

Former Thamesville Couple Celebrate 60 Wedding Anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Randall McDonald of Centre Street, Chatham, happily celebrated their sixieth wedding anniversary at their home New Year's day, marking the event with a family party for dinner and tea. Mr. and Mrs. McDonald, who enjoy the best of health, are very well known in Chatham and have the love and respect of all who are acquainted with them. They have make their home in Chatham some thirty years, living in Thamesville previously.
Sixty years ago New Year's day Miss Mary Witessel was married to Randall McDonald with Rev. Angus McColl of the First Presbyterian church officiating at his charge in Chatham, the ceremony being performed in Chatham. Three children were born of this union, two boys and one girl, but the youngest son died early in his youth.
Mr. and Mrs. McDonald were privileged on New Year's day in 1927 to have all their children and their families about them including Mr. and Mrs. Alex McDonald of Cross street, Mr. and Mrs. William Terry (nee Mary McDonald) and the following grandchildren, Irene Terry, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Trask (nee Laverne Terry).
Old friends called duing the day to express their congratulations and best wished and the Ladies Aid of Park Street church of which Mrs. McDonald is an old and faithful member and fine worker, sent a bouquet and cards of congratulations. Messages, telegrams and phone calls poured in all day and the old couple were remembered with pieces in gold by their children.
