"This most highly respected resident of Howard Township was born in that township, on the river Thames, August 6, 1816, a son of Randall and Polly (Hubbell) McDonald, who were among the very first settlers in the County of Kent... "Randall McDonald, the only son, served in the war prior to his marriage to Polly Hubbell which took place in 1815. They settled on the river Thames... Nine of their ten children grew to maturity, and as noted Alexander was the eldest, the others being... Annie, born in 1825, married Henry Bowers, who settled in the state of Michigan, and she died there the mother of five children - Samuel, Israel (deceased) who was a soldier in the Civil War in the States, Polly, John and Mary...

31. Anna MCDONALD, GGGG Aunt. Born ca 1825 in Kent, Ontario, Canada. Anna died in Sunfield, Eaton Co, MI on 12 Sep 1890; she was 65. Anna's date of death, as given in Henry Bowers' obituary. Buried on 16 Sep 1890/1919 in Lot 329, Lakeside Cem., Lake Odessa, MI. On 10 Nov 1843 when Anna was 18, she married Henry A. BOWER, in Thamesville, Kent, Ontario, Canada. Official date of marriage differs from the date of 6 Dec 1843, given in Henry's obituary. Born on 22 Oct 1822 in VermOnt Henry A. died in Battle Creek, Calhoun Co., MI on 30 Aug 1905; he was 82. Buried on 1 Sep 1905 in Lot 329, Lakeside Cem., Lake Odessa, MI. Occupation: Farmer.

"LAKE O's NUMBER ONE CITIZEN WILL BE 99 ON JUNE 16
"Our beloved John M. Bower, eldest resident of Lake Odessa, will very quietly celebrate his 99th birthday at his home, Thursday, June 16. Born in Thamesville, Ontario, Canada, the only living child of the family of six children of Henry and Anna McDonald Bower.
... He also tells an interesting story of his forefathers, how his grandfather Samuel Bower received a medal in the Revolutionary War which is still in the family. Also how his grandfather came from England and met Anna Welch of Ireland on the boat as they were crossing the ocean. It took three months to cross at that time and the young folks friendship culminated in their marriage when they reached Vermont. While residing there his father, Henry A. Bower was born and the family moved to Montreal and later to Thamesville, Ontario, Canada, where Henry met and married Anna McDonald, and John was born...
