Thamesville Herald Thursday 12 August 1909
Death of Miles McDonald. The death took place in Zone on Friday last, August 6th, of Miles H. McDonald in his 90th year. The deceased was one of the oldest residents here abouts and was well known to everyone for miles around.
The late Miles McDonald was born on November 6th, 1819, just across the river in Howard, and he spent his entire life of fourscore years and ten, tilling the soil, almost within a stone's throw of the village. He has made only three moves in all that time, always remaining near Thamesville. He was married in 1847 to Christina Bedford, who, with three daughters and one son survive him. The daughters are Mrs. Conlin, Richmond, Mich., Mrs. Bert Thomson, Spokane, Wash., Mrs. John H. Smith, Zone Tp., and the son, John McDonald of Marine City, Mich. A brother, Alex McDonald, of Ridgetown sideroad, who is several years nearer the century mark than the deceased, also survives him.
The funeral took place from his late residence, Lot 4, Con 4, at 1:30 on Monday, August 9th. Service was conducted in the Methodist church here, by Rev. Mr. Nethercott of Moraviantown at 2:30. A large crowd was present to pay their respects to the departed. Interment in the Mayhew cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs. Amos Daugherty, Lausse McDonald, Randy McDonald, Thamesville, Randy McDonald, of Chatham, Miles McDonald, Morpeth and Geo. Bedford, Zone.
