Obituary:
Hubbell, Glen A. - A resident of Thamesville. Passed away suddenly at Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, on Thursday, March 18, 1999, at the age of 79. Born in Chatham, Ontario, son of the late Garnet and Margaret (MacPherson) Hubbell. A lifelong resident of Thamesville, and a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Thamesville. Glen was a veteran of W.W.II, serving in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1940 to 1945. He was an ordinance articifer and joined HMCS Sioux when she was commissioned in 1943. He was Chief Petty Officer Ordinance during operations in the North Atlantic, on the Norwegian Coast and Russian convoys. In 1944 HMCS Sioux took part in D-Day operations. After the war Glen joined his father and uncle in the family business, E.S. Hubbell & Sons Ltd., manufacturers of corrugated steel pipe. His love of animals gave him pleasure throughout his life. He was a Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #367 Thamesville and served on Thamesville Council for 9 years. Beloved husband of the late Beryl Catherina Ada (Kirkwood) Hubbell. Loving father of Catherine and Paul Welsman, Allan and Betty Hubbell, both of Thamesville. Loving companion of Betty Parliament of Chatham. Sadly missed by his grandchildren Andrew and Robert Welsman, Elizabeth and David Hubbell. Dear brother of Joanne and Doug Evans of Sarnia, Donald and Jan Hubbell of Chardon, Ohio. Also survived by a sister-in-law Mary Hubbell of Madoc Twp. Predeceased by a brother MacPherson "Mac" Hubbell. The Hubbell family will receive friends at the John C. Badder Funeral Home, 72 Victoria St., Thamesville, on Tuesday from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. On Wednesday, March 24, 1999, the family will greet friends in the chapel of the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral service at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Sheila Fink of St. James Presbyterian Church, Thamesville officiating. Interment in Mayhew-Mt.Pleasant Cemetery, Thamesville. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Ontario Humane Society, Chatham Branch, or the Charity of One's Choice would be appreciated by the family.
