Obituaries, H.E.I.R.S. files
Cornwall - At "Locust Grove," on Tuesday, February 23, 1904, Mr. Chas. W. Cornwall, aged 90 years and 11 months.
Cornwall - Charles William Cornwall, died Tuesday February 23, 1904, at the home of his son, W.C. Cornwall, "Locust Grove." The old gentleman had not been in good health for some years, and his death was just a natural result of his extreme age, not from any particular malady. Services were conducted at Christ Church. Interment was made in Erie Cemetery. The deceased was born in Colchester South township, his father being the late John Cornwall, who was of Empire Loyalist descent. The first Cornwall came to Colchester about 1776 and took up property on the townline between Colchester South and Malden. The deceased was one of a family of three sons, the others John, who was killed by a fall in Malden, and Wheeler who died in 1874. He was first married in Poughkeepsie, New York, and his wife died in childbirth in Colchester South. He afterwards married Miss Strouts, who survives him, being now over 80 years of age. Their family consisted of one son and four daughter. They are: William C., Colchester S; Sarah, Mrs. Reynolds, Windsor who is deceased; Elizabeth, Mrs. Templeton, Los Galas, California; Charlotte, Mrs. Grubbe, Thistleton, Ontario; and Mrs. McCormick, Detroit. When Mr. Cornwall came to this township it was a wilderness and he did pioneer work clearing up the farm "Locust Grove" which was one of the most handsome and prosperous properties in this township. The last four years his faculties had been failing, though his general health was fair. In politics he was a Conservative and he was a member of the Church of England.
