EZRA SHERMAN HUBBELL, the oldest hardware merchant in Thamesville, one of that city's most prominent business men, is descended from one of the eary settlers of the County of Kent. The first of the family of whom there is any authentic record was Prindle Hubbell, his great-grandfather, who was born in Conneticut, but migrated to Ontario and settled in Howard, County of Kent, at an early day. There he died in 1828. His children were Lucinda, Wheeler, Rufus, Lyman, Andrew, Sally, Abigail, Anna. and Polly (who married Mr. McDonald). All of this family resided in the County of Kent, and are now deceased...

Prindle Hubbell came from the principality of Wales, Great Britain, when a young man, to the State of Connecticut. There he married Abba Sherman, a sister to the Lemuel Sherman who came to Kent County and settled on the banks of the Thames, on the farm now owned by Mr. William Sherman.
Prindle Hubbell, his wife and four children, came to Canada in the year 1795, and purchased about 125 acres of land from Jacob Grant, being the front part of Lot 12, western boundary in the Township of Howard in the county of Kent. There were five children born to them after they settled in Howard Township.
Prindle Hubbell was a tanner, currier and shoemaker by trade, his tannary standing on the banks of the Thames about 30 rods below where the railroad crosses the Thames.
His oldest son Rufus died in Canada and his wife and, four sons and one daughter moved into Michigan. Their names were Prindle, Daniel, John and Rufus. His oldest daughter Lucinda, married John Cornwall, of Colchester, who was an uncle of Nathan Cornwall. They had three sons and one daughter their names being John Wheeler and Charles.
His second daughter, Polly, married Randal McDonald. They had four sons and five daughters. Their sons were Alexander, Miles, Anslem and Lawson.
His third daughter, Sally, married Dr. Guthrie. They left no family.
His fourth daughter Annie married Nathan Cornwall, grandfather of Nate K. and Miss Rose of Thamesville. They had four sons and one daughter, Hamilton, Matthew, Joshua, Wellington and Louisa.
His second son, Andrew, had two wives, two sons, Ezra and Lyman, by his first wife and Eaber and William. His daughters were Louisa, Jane, Susan, Sally, Harriet and Lucinda. His third son Wheeler was the father of three sons and seven daughters, Charles, Sylovan, and Ammon, Louisa, Lucinda, Caroline, Mary, Hannah, Louisa and Priscilla.
His fourth son Lyman, was married twice and had three children, George, William and Elizabeth by his first wife and Wheeler, Alonzo, Charles, Elsie and Lucinda by his second wife.
His fifth daughter Abby, married Alexander Ledbeater. They had one son, Edward, and two daughters, Jane and Sarah Ann.
Prindle Hubbell died in the year 1828, at his son Wheeler's, Lot 12, Howard Twp. - Con.
