Named for his father's brother who was also a physician, Brock received his M.D. degree from The University of Western Ontario in 1936. He also earned an M.S. degree from Wayne Univ. in 1938. From 1938 to 1943 Brock was the resident general surgeon of the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. He later became the surgeon-in-chief.

Brock was made a U.S. citizen in 1940. In his distinguished career in Detroit, he has been the president of the American Geriatric Assoc., president of the Canadian Physiological Society, Associate Editor of The Detroit Medical News, and president of the Michigan Cancer Foundation.

In civic life, Brock was the chairman of the board of directors of the Boys Club of Metropolitan Detroit and a member of the Detroit Historical Society. He was an Episcopalean and a 33rd-degree Mason.
