Evidence for this Joseph being a son of William and Jane is scarce. The Biddulph book says William and Jane settled near Clandeboye, and their family consisted of five sons and four daughters. Another researcher (Gwen Levine, Robinson Chandler families, RootsWeb WorldConnect project) says William sold half his property (50 acres) to his son Joseph in 1847. The Joseph in the 1861 census is the right age, in the right place, to be this Joseph. Also, Sarah, his wife, is buried in the Lewis cemetery, along with his parents (but not Joseph himself).
