Never married. Served in the militia during the Fenian raids, then went to the States and joined the American army. He returned to Canada to serve on the prairies for the Canadian government forces during the Riel rebellion. He then managed a livery stable in a small town near Winnipeg, then moved to Wisconsin. His last years were spent in a county Home there.
