Hinweis zur Person

During the McKenzie Rebellion of 1837-38 John's brothers Nathaniel and William served in the Simcoe Cavalry, while John was placed on guard duty at home, by order of Col. Langworth, the officer in command. He looked after the cattle and supplied wood for the women of the area whose men were away in the army. His duties took in Sauble hill to London Twp.
He was an expert axeman and was in demand for building log houses and barns. He also worked as a teamster, hauling goods from Hamilton to London. Along with his brother William he brought the first thrashing machine into the Township in 1847. On 23 Dec. 1848 he leased 100 acres of Lot 22, Con. 11 of Biddulph Twp, from the Canada Co., for 3L, 7.6. He was a resident of Lucan in 1898.
