     ... John Scratch was born July 24, 1795, in the township of Gosfield, where he grew to manhood. He was reared to agricultural pursuits, and in time inherited the old homestead. He was quite a prominent man in his day, and served as magistrate from 1834 until the time of his death. In November, 1818, he married Sarah Malott, who was born May 10, 1799, and died Feb. 21, 1849... John Scratch married Sarah LaFleur, who was born June 11, 1833, and to this union were born: ... Alberta, April 29, 1869 (wife of Mr. Sawyer, of Mersea township).
