Funeral Set for Oldest Amherstburg Resident.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stephen Pettypiece, 502 Laird, Amherstburg, will be held tomorrow at Christ Church, Amherstburg. Mrs. Pettypiece died Wednesday in the Lever Nursing Home in Windsor, after a lengthy illness. She was 95 last July and was the oldest resident of the community. Mrs. Pettypiece will be buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery family plot, following services at 2 P.M. conducted by Rev. D. S. Henry and Rev. H. A. Wright. The James H. Sutton Funeral Home, 7 Elm, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Pettypiece was born Alice Helfrich in Colchester South, the daughter of a pioneer family. Her mother was Jean Lockerbie, whose father came to Amherstburg as a soldier with the Black Watch Regiment She had lived for 70 years in Amherstburg and had always given freely of her time to her church, although she was essentially a homemaker. She is survived by two sons, Lloyd J., now Amherstburg town clerk, and Howard of Syracuse, New York. Two deceased sons were Ernest and William, who were killed while serving in the Pacific with the U.S. Army in World War II. A sister, Mrs. Nettie Utter, Detroit, survives. Her husband died in 1933. He was a member of the town council and was employed for more than 40 years by the Detroit Windsor Ferry Company. In later years he was in charge of the Amherstburg dock.
