Following is the Obituary of William as it appeared in the Amherstburg Echo on Feb 24th, 1893:
PETTYPIECE--In Anderdon, on Thursday, February 23rd, William Pettypiece, Sr, aged 77 years. Deceased was one of the best known citizens of this part of the county and was generally called "King William". He was born in Sligo Co, Ireland and was married in Sligo City, to a Miss Duke. His brothers, Anthony and John, had emigrated to Canada and in 1850, he followed, arriving at Quebec, from where he came to Detroit and a short time after to Amherstburg. He remained but a little while in Amherstburg when he settled on lot 5, in the 7th concession of Anderdon, where he continued to reside until his death. On the retirement of Postmaster Kevill, in Amherstburg, in 1872, John O'Connor, then M.P. for Essex, had Mr. Pettypiece appointed to the office, a position he held for a few weeks, when he was succeeded by E. G. Park, on 15th May, 1872. The deceased was Assessor of Anderdon township one year and Collector for some years. He was also for a long time a Trustee of S. S. No. 4. The old gentleman had been ailing since last summer, but was able to be abut until the 19th inst., when he was taken to his bed, and died yesterday (Thursday) morning, at 2 o'clock, from gangrene. While residing in Ireland, deceased was a prominent Orangeman, and though he took part in the Orange celebrations in this country, he never allied himself with any lodge here. Besides his widow, he leaves six sons and two daughters, all living in Anderdon, the daughters, Sarah and Violet J., residing at home. The sons are John R., Anthony, William, Charles D., Duke A., and George E. The funeral will take place to-morrow (Saturday) morning, the services to be conducted at the family residence, on the 7th con., at 11 a. m., by Rev. G. W. Wye and the interment taking place in the Amherstburg cemetery.
