David Hopgood, who is well located on Lot 277, Talbot Road South, Gosfield North, County of Essex, is a prosperous farmer and a true son of Canada, having been born on his present farm, March 22, 1855, son of James and Eliza (Jones) Hopgood. ... In November, 1876, he was united in marriage with Miss Hannah A. Baltzer, born Jan. 20, 1853, in Gosfield, near Kingsville, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Iler) Baltzer, and a member of one of the prominent old pioneer families of the County of Essex. Mr. Baltzer was born in Germany in 1803, and married Mary Iler in Canada, who was born in 1815, in Colchester South. They settled on a farm in Gosfield, where he died in 1858, survived by his widow until 1898. She was left with six children to rear, as follows: ... Samuel married Sarah Johnston, of Gosfield, and they now reside in Kingsville; they have an adopted daughter, Jennie, wife of Alfred Baltzer, of Kingsville...
