William Call, a retired farmer of Morpeth, Howard township, County of Kent, was born in 1833, in his present home, a son of William and Mary (Williams) Call, one of Howard's old pioneer families. The father was born in the state of Pennsylvania, and the mother on the banks of the river Thames, in Canada.
     The chosen family name was William[sic], and the grandfather, William Call, was born in Ireland, as was also his wife, Elsie Hoe. Prior to the Revolutionary War of the States, they emigrated to the United States, and located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on the Allegheny river. About the time of the Revolution, they removed to Canada and lived for a time at Chatham, and then moved over on the River Thames, where they were living when the War of 1812 occurred. In that struggle his sons participated, and William (2) and his brother Samuel were both wounded in that war. William Call was drowned in the River Thames soon after the close of the war, and left a large family of children: ... (7) Jesse, born in Pennsylvania, married Mary Leadbeater, of Canada, and settled on the Talbot road, where he died leaving children...
