Commemorative Biographical Record of the County of Essex, J. H. Beers & Co., Toronto, 1905, p. 636-637:
Michael J. Malott, a prosperous farmer of Mersea township, was born on the farm he now occupies, which is a part of the original Malott homestead, Lot 237, Talbot Road, May 3, 1838, son of Joseph and Barbara (Fox) Malott.
     Joseph Malott was born in Gosfield township, in 1801, son of Theodore and Catherine (Wigle) Malott, and there he received the education and rearing of a farmer's boy. After reaching manhood's estate, he purchased 200 acres of bushland in Mersea township, and building himself a log house, removed there, and began putting his land in a state of cultivation. At the time of his death he had the satisfaction of knowing that he and his sons had cleared 125 acres of this large property, and it had greatly advanced in value. A portion of the estate was laid out in fruit trees, which now yield abundantly. He died in 1878, after a happy and useful life. Both he and his wife were consistent members of the Methodist Church, and she died at the age of sixty-seven years. Their children were: ... George W., deceased, married Ellen Pickle...
