Sherrie writes:
From The Amherstburg [ON] Echo:

"Moses Rose died Saturday, October 28, 1905 at the age of 84 years. The deceased had been suffering several weeks, gangrene having set in his foot, and the physician, Dr. Hassard, held out no hope of recovery from the first. The funeral took place on Monday the 30th, services were held at the house by Rev. Jas. Smither, pastor of the Baptist church, and the remains were interred in Erie cemetery. The deceased had been a janitor of the townhall for several years. He was born in Eastern Ontario in 1821, but moved to Essex county when young and spent nearly all his life in Gosfield South and Colchester South. His first wife was a daughter of the late Peter Malott, and after their marriage they lived on the Park farm near Cedar Creek, where two children were born to them. Mrs. Rose died six or seven years after their marriage. The house in which they lived took fire and she being ill at the time was carried out on a bed. The exposure resulted in her death. His second wife was Margaret Fulmer, eldest daughter of the late George Fulmer, of Harrow. They had four children, three of whom were living, Hiram, alderman of Detroit; Casper, of Colchester South, and Kitty, Mrs. F. Fulmer, Gosfield South. When old age crept up on him, he and Mrs. Rose retired to Harrow, where he became janitor of the town hall. Mrs. Rose died in 1903, then Mr. Rose went to live with his son, Casper Rose, where he died. In politics he was an ardent Liberal, in religion, a Baptist."

From The Amherstburg Echo, "Just Folks" column by Eleanor Gignac, dated October 18, 1989:

"I promised someone a long time ago that I would try to dig up some data on Moses Rose. Here's what we found so far. According to his obit in The Echo on October, 1905, Moses Rose was born in 'Eastern Ontario' in 1821 of Irish origin and came to Gosfield when quite young. He married twice- first on May 4th, 1845 by the minister of the Regular Baptist Church, Gosfield, to Catherine Malott, daughter of Peter Malott and Elizabeth Lamarsh. Catherine died after her second child was born. At the time they were living on the Park farm near Cedar Creek. The house caught fire and she was carried out while still in her bed but died of exposure. On the 18th of November, 1852 Peter [sic] married Margaret Fulmer, daughter of George Fulmer and Elizabeth Moody. They had four children, three of whom survived. So the five children of Moses Rose were Elizabeth, Jonathan, Hiram, Casper and Kitty. Family history says that Moses Rose was a very large man of great strength and in his prime was one of the best wood choppers around. On several occasions he competed in chopping contests in Michigan, where the family lived for a few years. When he died Moses had been janitor at the Harrow town hall for several years."
