David Hopgood, who is well located on Lot 277, Talbot Road South, Gosfield North, County of Essex, is a prosperous farmer and a true son of Canada, having been born on his present farm, March 22, 1855, son of James and Eliza (Jones) Hopgood.
     James Hopgood was born in England in 1809, and the mother in 1811... The young couple settled in Huron County for two years, and then came to Talbot street, where Mr. Hopgood bought 100 acres of land... His death took place Oct. 9, 1877, and that of his widow in October, 1889... The children born to James Hopgood and his wife were as follows: ... John, born at Port Huron, married Miss Jane Williams, and now resides in the County and town of Essex. They had three children: Evelyn, who died in infancy; Horatio, deceased; and Ida, who married Dr. Arthur Scott, and moved to Owosso, Michigan where their only child, Flossy, was born, and where Mrs. Scott died when her child was but two years old.
