... John Scratch was born July 24, 1795, in the township of Gosfield, where he grew to manhood. He was reared to agricultural pursuits, and in time inherited the old homestead. He was quite a prominent man in his day, and served as magistrate from 1834 until the time of his death. In November, 1818, he married Sarah Malott, who was born May 10, 1799, and died Feb. 21, 1849. To this union came children as follows: Leonard, born March 25, 1820, was married Nov. 14, 1837, to Mary McNamara, who was born in Ireland in December, 1822...
