John Parks, one of the leading farmers of Malden township, County of Essex, is a son of Jonathan Parks, who was born in Staffordshire, England.
In his native shire Jonathan Parks learned the mason's trade, following same until 1841, in which year he came to Canada. In Staffordshire, on June 11, 1832, he married Susanna Hartshorn... Returning to Ontario, Mr. Parks purchased a farm of 100 acres in Lot 83, 7th Concession, Malden township, on which he resided until his death, in 1873. He added twenty-five acres to the original property. ...

When he was twenty-two years of age, Mr. Parks married Miss Hannah A. Shepley, a native of Raleigh township, County of Kent, and a daughter of Solomon Shepley. To this union came children as follows: ... Mary, born May 18, 1868, married Curtis Mickle, and has had one child, Earl Parks, born Oct. 31, 1901...
Solomon Shepley was born in Harwich township, County of Kent, Nov. 17, 1797, and during his young manhood lived for a time in Gosfield township, Couty of Essex, where he married Sarah Wigle, who was born Aug. 26, 1798, and died Jan. 10, 1868. Mr. Shepley died May 17, 1868. After marriage Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Shepley lived in Raleigh township, near Cedar Springs, and there engaged in farming all of their lives. The children born to this worthy couple were as follows: ... Hannah A., the wife of John Parks, the subject of this biography, was born April 22, 1833... The Parks and Shepley families are justly numbered among the most representative of the locality, and their members have well borne their part in the upbuilding and development of the several sections in which they have made their homes.
