CLAUDE SHEPLEY KILLED.
Tuesday afternoon, while Claude Shepley was plastering in the Irwin Block, Leamington, he stepped backwards off the platform, falling a distance of 18 or 20 feet, the stairway beneath, striking on his head and shoulders with terrific force. He was at once picked up in an unconscious condition, and carried to his home, where from first, the physicians gave little hope of recovery. All that could be done, was done for him, but he never regained consciousness, dying at 5 o'clock Wednesday evening. The deceased was a son of Sol. Shepley, Maidstone. He was born in Malden some 35 years ago. Besides the parents seven of a family are left, Ernest, on the Andrew Iler farm, Colchester South; William and Andrew, at home; Oscar and Asa, at New Canaan; Ada, Mrs. Marvin Moore, Colchester South; Hannah at home; Sarah, Mrs. George Brush, New Canaan. Mr. Shepley is well known throughout South Essex. He was married in the summer of 1898 to a widow of the late Steven Shepley, nee Miss Maggie Drummond, daughter of Joseph Drummond, Clerk of Colchester South Township. They had no children. By her first marriage she had two children Joseph Drummond Shepley, and Earl Shepley. Mr. Shepley farmed in Malden in the Shepley farm opposite Thos. Hood's, some five years, leaving that in the fall of 1898, when bought grain and hogs for Geo. Rose, Harrow. He removed to Leamington in trhe summer of 1899. He is a member of Harrow Lodge No. 309, I.O.O.F. The funeral will be held to Erie Cemetery this (Friday) morning, the body being brought on the morning train from Leamington.
