Sol. R. Shepley, who was seized with a stroke of paralysis at the home of his daughter. Mrs. James Stevenson, Jr., on Arthur Avenue, essex, on the 23rd of December, died at Mrs. Stephenson's on Friday last, New Year's Day, at the age of seventy-four years. Deceased was born in Raleigh, Kent County, near Cedar Springs, in 1831, and came with his parents to Essex County in 1848, settling in the third concession of Colchester South, where they lived till 1856, when they moved to Malden township. There deceased was married to Miss Emily Mickle, daughter of the late James Mickle, of Malden, she dying four years ago. About ten years ago the family moved to Maidstone and remained there till about five years ago. Since then deceased has been living with his children and enjoying fairly good health till he was stricken with paralysis. To his union with Mrs. Shepley were born nine chldren, one Claud deceased and the other surviving as follows:--Oscar, Sarah (Mrs. Geo Brush) and Asa, of New Canaan, Ernest, William and Vane, of Colchester North; Ada (Mrs. Moore), of Colchester South and Hannah (Mrs. Jas. Stevenson, Jr.,) of Essex. Jacob C. Shepley of Kingsville, and James, of Colchester South, are surviving brothers while Mrs. John Parks, of Malden, is a sister. The funeral took place on Sunday morning leaving Mr. Stevenson's residence in the morning and proceeding to Erie cemetery at Colchester village. Rev. D. Hicks, of Gesto, officiated.

MALDEN
There died at Essex Wednesday of last week, Solomon Shepley, in the 74th year of his age. The deceased had suffered three strokes of paralysis within a year and when the last one came it was known that he couldn't live. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon and a number of relatives from this section were in attendance. Mr. Shepley was a son of the late Solomon Shepley and was born in Colchester South. Of the family the following are living:--James, Colchester South; Mrs. John Parks, Malden, and J.C. Shepley, of Kingsville. His wife was Emily Mickel, daughter of the late James Mickle, of Malden, and they had a family of nine children, eight of whom was living--Oscar, Asa, Ernest and Vane, of Colchester North; William, of Essex; Sarah, Mrs. George Brush, Colchester South. He was a resident of this township and of Colchester North for some years, as always a kindly and much esteemed man.

John Parks, one of the leading farmers of Malden township, County of Essex, is a son of Jonathan Parks, who was born in Staffordshire, England.
     In his native shire Jonathan Parks learned the mason's trade, following same until 1841, in which year he came to Canada. In Staffordshire, on June 11, 1832, he married Susanna Hartshorn...
     John Parks was born in Staffordshire, England, Jan. 11, 1837, and at the age of eight(?!) years was thrown upon his own resources...
     When he was twenty-two years of age, Mr. Parks married Miss Hannah A. Shepley, a native of Raleigh township, County of Kent, and a daughter of Solomon Shepley...
     Solomon Shepley was born in Harwich township, County of Kent, Nov. 17, 1797, and during his young manhood lived for a time in Gosfield township, Couty of Essex, where he married Sarah Wigle, who was born Aug. 26, 1798, and died Jan. 10, 1868. Mr. Shepley died May 17, 1868. After marriage Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Shepley lived in Raleigh township, near Cedar Springs, and there engaged in farming all of their lives. The children born to this worthy couple were as follows: John W., born Jan. 22, 1820, died at Chatham, Ont., in 1892; Michael A., born April 4, 1822, died at Bothwell in 1896; Joseph W., born Dec. 22, 1825, lived in Colchester South, where he died March 28, 1878; James D. G., born June 9, 1828, resides in Colchester; Hannah A., the wife of John Parks, the subject of this biography, was born April 22, 1833; Solomon R., born in April, 1835, resides at Essex; Jacob C., born Sept. 22, 1843, resides at Kingsville; Charles W., twin brother of Jacob C., born Sept. 22, 1843, also resides at Kingsville, where both are prominent men. The Parks and Shepley families are justly numbered among the most representative of the locality, and their members have well borne their part in the upbuilding and development of the several sections in which they have made their homes.
