Nota individual

Richard ran away from home at about the age of 15. During the war of 1812 he joined the American army in Detroit. After his discharge he worked as a pilot on the Ohio and Kentucky rivers. He married Elizabeth Evans (of Henry Co., Kentucky) on 17 December 1826 and raised 8 children in Henry Co., Kentucky, where he and Elizabeth are buried. His son Preston Butler made contact with the family in Ontario after the close of the civil war in 1866.
