Commemorative Biographical Record of Kent County, Ontario, J.H. Beers & Co., Toronto, 1904, pg. 386-387:
William Tape (deceased). The Tape family of Howard township, County of Kent, is one of the pioneer and prominent ones that has become well known, its members being men and women of sterling worth, mental equipment and business enterprise.
The late William Tape, who was a most worthy member of this family, was born on Sherkin Island, in Ireland, March 12, 1830, a son of Thomas and Frances (Gosnell Tape), who came from Ireland to Ontario in 1836, settling at Highgate, in Orford township, County of Kent... After locating in Canada Thomas Tape turned his attention exclusively to farming. His years were extended to ninety-one, and he died on his farm Dec. 3, 1892, his wife preceding him in February, 1884. In religious belief both he and his wife were Methodists. His political convictions made him an ardent Reformer. Seven sons and four daughters were born to Thomas Tape and his wife, namely: William, Joseph, Elizabeth, James, Susan, John, Lawrence, George and Thomas Henry; two girls died in infancy.
...
(IX) Thomas H. Tape, born Sept. 14, 1845, married Sarah Mickle, of Highgate, and resides on the old Thomas Tape homestead with subsequent additions.
