The McDonald Family by Helen McDonald Wreath, Lambton Settlers Series Volume 2, More Early Days Along the St. Clair, published by the Lambton Branch of the OGS (These articles were originally published in 1948-1949 as part of the Lambton Centennial Series in the Sarnia Observer):
The McDonalds of Port Lambton
The first child of Angus and Jane was Elizabeth, born in 1830... Another daughter Catherine, arrived in 1831. She lived to become the bride of Donald Gilean McLean of Lobo township in Middlesex county and lived there until she moved with her husband to Michigan.
A distinguished descendant of Angus McDonald and Jane Bury was the son of their daughter Catherine, the late Angus McLean, internationally prominent Detroit surgeon. Following his graduation from Stratroy Collegiate Institute, Dr. McLean entered the Detroit College of Medicine and Surgery, receiving his degree in 1886. He later did post graduate work at the University of Edinburgh.
During his lifetime he maintained constant contact with Harper Hospital in Detroit and when the United States entered the First World War Dr. McLean organized and let to France the Harper Hospital Unit, Base Hospital 17. In October 1917, he was appointed president of the U.S. Army Medical Commission to Italy.
Dr. McLean was cited for heroic work with the American Expeditionary Force. In September, 1918 he was recommended by the French Govenment for the Legion of Honor and received a diploma of honor from the Federation de Foyers du Soldat et du Marin in testimony of his services when his hospital was stationed at Dijon near Paris. Dr. McLean was born in Lobo in 1861 and died in Detroit in 1938, one week after his 77th birthday.
Twenty-three years after Dr. Angus McLean entered Dijon with his hospital, a fellow descendant of John Colbrook Bury moved into the same building there, on the staff of 136th General Hospital, U.S. Army, in the second World War. She was Captain Lorene M. Warwick, born in Froomfield, and graduate nurse of Harper Hospital, so long a field of Dr. McLean's surgical labors...
