Individual Note

Robert Gagnon apparently immigrated from France shortly before his
marriage and settled on L'Ile d'Orleans near Quebec City where the
original settlers had been massacred in 1656. He and his wife Marie
were among the earliest European inhabitants of the area. Quebec City
had been founded by Samuel de Champlain less than 50 years before, in
1608.
