From Jeff Gosnell:
Lawrence B Gosnell was born 6 Sep 1832 and grew up on his fathers farm Lot 17/18 Ridge road Orford township. He married Sarah Lee on 6 Feb 1856 in Orford township and in May 1856 they moved to Concession 6 Lots 10 and 11 on a farm of 178 acres where they erected a handsome brick house in 1892. Lawrence and Sarah reared a large family. Lawrence M. a farmer in Essex County is married and has three children (John L Gosnell, Frank B Gosnell, and Lawrence Gosnell); Anna Gosnell at home; John H Gosnell a farmer in Orford township who married Mary M Leitch and they have two children (Francis D Gosnell and Maud L Gosnell); Emma Gosnell died when she was three years old; Edward Gosnell died in infancy; James W Gosnell was unmarried and living at home until later in life when he married Annie E Swanton; Hector Gosnell at home; Catherine E Gosnell at home; and Ellen L Gosnell at home. All their children were a credit to their parents and the community in which they were reared, a family of whom any parents might well be proud. The younger sons now manage the farm whose broad acres show forth their excellent work, and are highly respected in the community, while they and their sisters are welcomed at all the social events of Orford township and surrounding country. Lawrence's wife Sarah Lee was born in County Cork Ireland on 28 December 1835. She was the daughter of John and Sarah (Sheon) Lee of county Cork and they came to Orford township in 1841, taking up 100 acres, now owned and operated by their son John Lee M.P.P. The elder John Lee was a farmer all his life and died on 8 January 1867, age 64 years, The mother survived until 29 Mar 1891 when she died aged 84 years. They were interred in the family cemetery. The Lees were very prominent in the Methodist Church. Born to John and Sarah Lee were Catherine Lee; George Lee who died at the age of 2 years; Sarah Lee Mrs Gosnell; Ann Lee who married Lawrence Tape and is deceased; the Hon John Lee M.P.P. a farmer on the old homestead and : Louisa Lee who married William Attridge a farmer of Highgate.
