Richard Dobbyn (1794-1883) was educated in Dublin, Ireland and taught school. On April 20, 1815, he married Maria Bobier (1796-1869). The Catholics had confiscated his father's estate, so the young couple decided to come to Canada... Richard and Maria had 13 children, eight of whom lived to adulthood...

Richard Dobbyn Jr. (1822-1903) married Elizabeth Laird (1830-1858), and after her death, married her sister Maria Laird (1821-1900). They farmed Lot 27, Con 3, ... Richard and Maria did not have any children. Richard and Elizabeth had four children: Charles Sylvester Dobbyn (1849), Alexander Richard Dobbyn (1851), Lorinda Jane Dobbyn (1853) and Mary Louisa Dobbyn (1856).
...Alexander Dobbyn (1851-1936) married Elizabeth Wilson (1859-1948) in 1882. They lived in Shetland and raised three children. Lulu Christian Dobbyn (1885-1959) married Walter M. Moorhouse and they moved to Toronto. Douglas Alexander Dobbyn (1887-1966) married Bertha Reycraft (1894-1948) in 1918 and they lived at Lot 27, Con. 3. Phylis was a schoolteacher who married Bill McCreary in 1947. They lived in Smith Falls and retired to Vancouver. They have two daughters: Elaine Bertha and Joan Elizabeth.
Rey remained on the farm and married Betty Jean Fair in 1952. They had three children: Diane Elizabeth, Linda Jean and Brian Alexander. Rey's life was cut short by a farm accident in 1968. Betty and the family remained on the farm another year before moving to the Glencoe area. Betty married Bill Hutchison in 1984 and they live in Sarnia.
Eunice was a schoolteacher who took vocal lessons in Sarnia, Toronto and London. She became a member of the Earle Terry Singers in London. Eunice directed two choirs based in Newbury - the Village Singers (1984-1994) and the Village Ladies (1997). Eunice married Robert George Fennell in 1955. They raised four daughters: Penny Louise, Margaret Ann, Barbara Eunice and Jane Ethel. Bob and Eunice live near Newbury where Bob managed A. Fennell and Son Ltd, a lumber and building supplies firm, for 48 years.
Doug loved his horses whether the heavy duty type or the lighter faster drivers. A "spree" for him was a day out with his cousins to "dicker" for a handsome new team. He played the mouth organ and sometimes made up a musical group with his two sisters.
Muriel Elvis Dobbyn (1889-1975) married Thomas Henry Moorhouse and they farmed Lot 25, Con. 3. They had one son, Alexander. Muriel was a gifted music teacher.
