James Reycraft was farmer of Orford township who retired to Highgate Ontario. In 1855 he married Phillicia Shannon, and they reared a most creditable family, the survivors all being prominent citizens. The children were:- Ellen, George F, Sarah J, Albert J, Ellen M, Ernest, J William, Joseph, Phillis, and E Blanche. James's wife Phillicia (Shannon) Reycraft was a daughter of Richard and Sarah (Lee) Shannon, both of County Cork Ireland where the father died. The mother came to the County of Kent with two children in 1849 and settled in Orford township, and they were later joined by the rest of the family. She died in 1880 at the age of sixty-four and was buried in Gosnell cemetery. Children born to her were:- Anna Shannon- died at the age of sixteen at Toronto, Phillicia who married James Reycraft, Ann Shannon -married John Cruickshank- farmer at Alymer Ont, Susannah Shannon- married Edward Knight Orford, Mrs Sarah (Lee) Shannon) married a second husband by the name of Richard Dobbyn and she had two more children from this marriage :-Anna Dobbyn and Henry Dobbyn.
