The engagement is announced of Jean Elizabeth, second daughter of Mrs. Agnes L. Scarlett and the late Mr. Loren H. Scarlett, of Florence, Ontario, to Mr. Gordon Wallace McEachran, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. McEachran, of Chatham. The wedding will be quietly observed on Saturday, Sept 28th. Obituary, Bothwell Times, 4 December 1963, from Nadine Marcus, in the files of the Kent Branch of the OGS
Mrs. Gordon W. McEachran, the former Jean Elizabeth Scarlett, and a resident of 543 King St. W., died suddenly at Victor Lauiston School, Chatham, on Wed. Nov 27th, 1963. A postmortem, directed by the coroner, Dr. R. H. Walker, attributed death to a brain hemorrhage. The autopsy was held because Mrs. McEachran had complained to another teacher of a pain in the back of the neck and head and her medical history had revealed no indication of heart disease. She was born in Florence, Ont., daughter of the late Loren Scarlett and Agnes Laird and was a teacher on the staff of the Chatham Board of Education for the past 13 years. She was a graduate of London Normal School and was a former teacher on the staff of King Edward Public School in Walkerville. Mrs. McEachran was a member of Park Street United Church, Chatham and a former member of the choir of the church. Her husband predeceased in 1949. Surviving are 3 sisters, Mrs. W. E. (Josie) Gibson, of Windsor, Mrs. Ross (Belva) McGee, of Sarnia and Mrs. H. E. (Mildred) Richardson, of Leamington; one brother Glenn Scarlett, of St. Thomas. Funeral services were conducted in the Chapel of the John G. Stephen Funeral Home, Wellington St. W., on Sat afternoon, Nov. 30th, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. C. A. Perkins, of Park Street United Church, officiating. Burial was in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
