Funeral services for Mr. L. H. Scarlett were held Tues. Feb 21st at his late home, conducted by Rev. J. Button, of the United Church, Fordwich, a close friend of the family, who also officiated at the graveside. Mr. Button gave an impressive message fro Jas. 4-14. The hymns, "Unto the Hills" and "The Sweet Bye and Bye," were sung and an appropriate selection by the choir. The floral offerings from friends and relatives were numerous and beautiful. The pall bearers were Messrs. Chas. and Lyle Elliot, Grant Forshee, Ralph Lampman and Chas. Dickson. Interment was made in Trinity Cemetery, Talbot Street. Mr. Lorne Scarlett passed away quite suddenly, suffering from a stroke, after a week's illness. He was born near Ridgetown in 1863, coming to Florence some years ago where he followed his occupation of painter and decorator. Mr. Scarlett was a good citizen, a loyal friend and a kind neighbour; his kindness was extended to these outside his immediate friends and neighbours and reached those who were sometimes forgotten or neglected by the busy world. The aged had cause to be grateful for his visits and kindly services; it was said of him that if a neighbour needed help, he not only gave it willingly but gladly. Sincere sympathy is felt for his wife who was Miss Agnes Laird, also for the family, Misses Josie and Belva, of Chatham; Miss Jean, of Walkerville; Miss Mildred, at home, and Mr. Glen Scarlett, of St. Thomas, also a little granddaughter, Ruth Joanne. He also leaves three sisters, Miss Rilla Scarlett, of Ridgetown; Mrs. J. B. Clark, of Chatham; Mrs. Henry Bugg, of Pontiac, and two brothers, Mr. Ernest Scarlett, of Pontiac, Mich., and Mr. Chas. Scarlett, of Cottam.
