There passed away to the Great Beyond on Wed. March 11th , at 3:30 p.m., Lorenda Laird, beloved wife of the late Mr. Thos. Dobbyn, aged 97 years and 2 months. The funeral was held on Sat. afternoon, at 2 o'clock, when an impressive service was conducted at her late residence by Rev. W. N. Lovegrove, taking as his test, "At evening time it shall be light." Mrs. L. M. Thompson and Miss Fleda Mills sang a duet during the service. The remains were borne to the family plot in the Shetland Cemetery for interment, the pallbearers being her six nephews. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. Deceased was the daughter of the late George and Winnifred Scarlett Laird and was born near Florence. After her marriage she resided at Shetland, coming to Florence forty years ago where she resided until death called. Mr. Dobbyn predeceased her in 1901. She possessed a very cheerful disposition. She leaves to mourn her loss, three daughters and one son, Mrs. J. Zealand Johnston, of Penticton, B.C., Mrs. Ann Risk, of Detroit, Miss Winifred Dobbyn, of Florence, and Mr. A. B. Dobbyn, of London, also an aged brother, Mr. Edward Laird, of Florence, and two half sisters and one half brother, Mrs. Adda Elliot, of Florence, Mrs. Thos. Simpson, of Wardsville, and Geo. Laird, of the West. A number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends who assembled to pay tribute to one whose life was an example of the Christian Faith. "Loved in life she will be remembered in death."
