Emigrated with father to Pittsburgh in 1848. Was a genius at business
and acquired companies in oil, steel, shipping and railroads. Was the
man who introduced sleeping cars on trains. Sold to U.S. Steel in 1901
and retired. Left many millions in charitable trusts.
