Obituary, 1915, HEIRS files:
Alphens Adams, who suffered a stroke of paralysis early in January, and several smaller strokes after which made him an invalid and compelled him to take to bed, passed away Saturday afternoon, the direct cause of death being an attack of pneumonia. The funeral, which was very largely attended, was held Tuesday afternoon and was under the auspices of the Orange Order, of which he was a member. The remains were conveyed to Christ Church, Colchester, where Rev. J. W. Connor, rector, preached an impressive sermon, and interment followed in the Old Christ church cemetery, the pallbearers being six Orangemen. Mr. Adams was born in Gosfield South, being a son of the late Matthew Adams. He has two brothers and three sisters living - Frank, Olive and Josie, on the home place; Archibald, in the Section, and Ella (Mrs. Henry Klie), Colchester South. He was married to Eliza Martin, daughter of the late Robert Martin, of Colchester South, and their family of eight are all still living as follows: Ada (Mrs. William Bertrim), Essex; William, Gosfield South; Forest, Ora, Raymond, Carmine and Verda, who live with the mother at home; Lillian, (Mrs. Allex Fox), of Colchester South. Mr. Adams was a nephew of Joshua Adams. The Adams family are descended from a long line of ancestors, among whom was John Quincey Adams, one of the early Presidents of the United States. The subject of this sketch was a man of quiet disposition and many good qualities which earned the esteem and deep respect of his friends and neighbours.
